Now look, I know that real time strategies are not for everyone. I also know that turn-based strategy games appeal to even less people. In all honesty, I’ve never been a huge fan of them, myself. But just recently, I discovered a little gem called Weewar: a simple military style Turn-based strategy that is so beautifully simple, its hard not to like.

Once you make your account, its go time. You are given a headquarters to keep track of all your games, a community page, which consists of a list of everyone looking for a game. Rather than there being open servers, players can make their own game and invite people off of the list. There is also a box for chatting with other players on the community page, in order to make it even easier to find games.

One of the great features about Weewar is the option to set a pace for the game. This means that the Games can range from quick face-offs to epic 6 person battles that can take days. Yes that’s right. Battles can last for days, but that does not mean that you will be sitting at your computer for the entirety of that time. (I hope not at least) In fact if it is your preference, games can require hardly any devotion whatsoever. You can make your move, leave your computer, and if you have time later in the day, come back for your next move. The learning curve is about 5-10 minutes. This game is simple from the get-go, but becoming a strong force on the battlefield will require hours of practice. Each player is also given a ranking. Your initial rank is 1500 and can increase or decrease, depending on how many games you win or lose.

At the heart of it, Weewar is a simple game, with a simple name, that you don’t have to think much about. That is, unless you want to get really good. In that case you can spend endless hours coming up with ingenious stratagems to outsmart your opponents. The choice is yours.
